Intangible creativity
We're still crafting regularly, making whatever comes to mind. Problem is, many of the crafts I'm making will be future gifts. Posting them here would give them away! However, we try to inspire creativity in many different ways. A recent favorite is called "magical world".

Hannah told me that when I read her a book, she closes her eyes and imagines herself as the character. And when she has trouble sleeping, I tell her to close her eyes and imagine herself somewhere special. Usually, she wants to imagine herself as the star ballerina in the Nutcracker.

How to play "magical world":
Set up a situation where a magical world is revealed (ie. behind a bush, in the back of a closet, walking through a mirror.) Ask questions about this new world.
  • What do you see in front of you?
  • What is in the distance?
  • Describe the weather.
  • What do you smell?
  • Who do you see?
  • Now look right, what do you see?
  • Describe the people/plants/land you see.
  • Now look left, what do you see?
  • What is behind you?
  • What are you going to do?
  • What does it feel like?
  • What are you going to eat?
  • What does it taste like?
  • Who are you going to talk to?
  • How will you get home?
Tonight, the entry in to Hannah's magical world was in a fun house at a carnival. She received a note from the operator who told her to go straight through the purple wall when she came to it. After much hesitation, she went through. (Her input starts here) She then came to a green door and decided to open it. She then came to an orange door and went through that one too. She came to a red door and it was locked. She tried to push the door down once and it didn't work. The second time didn't work either. The third time she decided to take a run at it and it opened. It led her to a land covered in grass and flowers in the distance. There was a blue sky with just a few clouds. When she looked right, she saw a man standing beside a dessert cart. The dessert cart contained cakes and cupcakes and cookies that he baked in his bakery. When she looked right she saw a woman standing beside another dessert cart with pies and candy. It smelled like delicious baking everywhere she stood. When she looked behind her she saw a bright blue and sparkly waterfall which was also a slide. Kids were going down the slide and disappearing so she decided to do the same thing. The slide took her to a rainbow door with blue stars all over it. When she opened it, it brought her back home.
